Dr Ramesh Mehta CBE

Dr. Ramesh Dulichandbhai Mehta, born in 1947, is a renowned paediatrician and a pivotal figure in promoting equality and diversity within the healthcare sector. He completed his medical education at Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur, before moving to the UK in 1981 to continue his training.

Dr. Mehta served as a consultant paediatrician at Bedford Hospital, where he developed paediatric rheumatology services. He was also a tutor for the University of Cambridge and RCPCH. He founded BAPIO in 1996 to support overseas doctors in the NHS, leading significant legal and policy changes.

A strong advocate for equality, Dr. Mehta introduced the Dignity Charter for the NHS. During COVID-19, he initiated support plans for healthcare in India and visa exemptions for international medical professionals.
